Here at Cloth Pad Shop we are (as you would expect) passionate about Cloth Pads. But many of us are also passionate about getting cloth pads out to women who are in desperate need of effective menstrual protection. This is a huge problem in developing countries around the world. Many are absent from school when they are menstruating because they do not have access to products to allow them to manage their periods while at school (some even drop out once they start menstruating). It can also affect young women in orphanages, women who work and even women in prisons (many of whom are imprisoned for political reasons). Women often turn to using newspapers, leaves and strips of rags, some even getting infections because of the lack of appropriate sanitary products.

Read more about this problem on www.donatepads.org and see the Donate Pads Facebook Group

We occasionally list donation pads for sale. The idea is that the pad maker puts the pads up for sale, and a customer can then "buy" these, but instead of having the pads for themselves - they are sent directly to the organisation to be distributed among the needy women. This is a win win situation for everyone. The pad maker gets paid for their time and materials (so is inspired to keep donating), people who can't sew pads themselves get to help the cause by contributing pads, and the pads get sent where they are needed. The more pads that can be donated, the more women can be helped!

We work with different organisations, and those are explained in the individual listings. We commonly work with organisations such as The Shanti Uganda Society, HURU, Days for Girls and SHE. There are other pad makers and websites also donating to this cause, you can find their details on the Donate Pads website.

So Cloth Pad Shop has set up a special category in each of our sections, where our sellers are encouraged to list pads for this cause. You can support this effort by buying these pad sets, which in turn will prompt the sellers to list more!
